Men's Wedding Bands

Most of the decision here is width and finish, and both are easier to get right than people expect.

Width first. A 4mm band is understated and suits a slimmer hand; 5mm to 5.5mm is the most common choice and reads as a wedding band without dominating; 6mm and above is deliberately substantial and needs a broad finger to look proportionate rather than heavy. If you have never worn a ring, err narrower — a band you are aware of all day is a band you take off.

Then finish, which changes the character more than the metal does. High polish is traditional and shows scratches soonest. Matte and brushed finishes hide daily wear far better and read more modern. Hammered surfaces disguise damage best of all, because the texture is already irregular. Beveled edges make a wide band look slimmer than it measures.

Comfort fit is worth having on any width above 4mm: the domed interior means less of the band grips the finger, which matters when you never take it off.
