1.5 Carat Pear Shaped Diamonds

At 1.50 ct a pear is about 10 by 6.5 mm — the point where the silhouette itself becomes the design, and a plain solitaire setting is enough. Halos and side stones tend to fight a pear at this size rather than support it.

Watch the bow-tie across the belly of the stone. Pears show it less than marquises but more than ovals, and at 1.50 ct a pronounced one leaves a dark stripe exactly where the eye rests. The 360° view is the only reliable way to judge it.

Consider the setting direction before buying. A pear worn point-up elongates the finger; worn point-down it reads softer and more traditional. The stone is the same, the ring is not, and it is worth deciding early because it changes which proportions suit you.
