2 Carat Oval Diamonds

A two carat oval is around 10.5 by 7 mm — long enough to reach most of the way across a finger. Because an oval already spreads more than a round, this is the size at which the shape stops looking like a large solitaire and starts looking like a statement.

Two cutting faults become obvious at two carats and are worth checking in the 360° view rather than the report. The bow-tie is the first: at this scale a heavy one is impossible to unsee. The second is shoulder symmetry — if the widest points of the outline do not sit exactly opposite each other, the stone looks subtly lopsided when set.

On budget: at two carats the premium for a natural stone over an equivalent lab-grown is at its widest of any size we stock. If the carat weight is the priority, this is the band where lab-grown buys the most visible result.
